A newly purchased property in Ballinlough, Cork City required some foundation repair work before an extension and renovation works could commence. The property was experiencing Category 3 cracking, particularly to the rear, where most of the new extension was to connect, thereby increasing the risk.
During a site survey with the Clients engineer, a scope of work was agreed in principle. The specification was underpinning via pile and beam to the rear elevation, the area of most concern, and pressure grouting to both gables.
In order to confirm the specification and ensure that no significant anomalies may exist on site, we completed a trial hole and some probing. A site meeting was held with the Client so they were comfortable with the proposal and contracts were signed.
Three nr micropile supported reinforced concrete ground beams were constructed beneath the foundations to the rear and dry-packed the following day. Pressure grouting was completed at 21 nr locations. This project gave us a great opportunity to try out our new Marini MA90 rockdrill which worked a treat.
All areas were backfilled and made safe and the site was left in a neat and tidy manner. As built drawings were forwarded to the engineer for inclusion in the certification and safety file.
