Escape of water from drains can slowly reduce the bearing capacity of the underlying soils thereby resulting in foundation movement that is evidenced by cracking. In the case of a water supply leak, the movement can occur much more quickly as was the case at this property. As there was no meter provided to the dwelling, we are not entirely sure how much water was lost.

Water escape from a leaking connection was found to be the culprit and even resulted in the partial collapse of a local inspection chamber. A relative of the insured had installed a temporary fix to maintain services.  Substruck was recommended to the insured by an in-law who we had worked with back in 2010.

An insurance claim was made on behalf of the homeowner and a scope of works agreed between stakeholders in the form of raking micropiles through foundations. All local drains had to be removed to facilitate the works and the final test was witnessed by the supervising engineer.

The insured was presented with a certificate of completion and as built drawings for their records. Crack repair and decoration was completed by a third party contractor after a settlement period of six months.
