This project was something a little bit different where an outdoor decking area of a Cork City hotel began to subside due to consolidation of filled ground. The design provided by the Consulting Engineer was to construct a new micropile supported reinforced concrete slab to provide permanent support to the area.
Underground services provided the greatest risk on site and we had to carefully expose all pile locations to prove that no services would be struck. As the site was riddled with six different services, we worked with the engineer to modify the design with respect to the services. 8 number Dywidag micropiles were installed to a depth of approximately 10 metres; 3 number through an existing RC retain wall.
A 150mm thick concrete slab was then poured with one number layer of A393 weldmesh reinforcement. The existing brick paving finish was re-laid on installation of the slab.
