One of the biggest risks with the infamous buchan trap is that at some point in time, they will begin to give trouble. And when they do, there is no magic solution only to excavate down and remove.
This job required the removal of a collapsed buchan trap on an emergency basis. The first photo in the slider is taken looking down through the rodding eye of the buchan. We were called to the job as we had completed similar work for the family over ten years ago. Within a few days, we had mobilised and removed the interceptor trap and things were flowing nicely again.
We also gave the client an option of replacing the remaining clay drainage within the property but could not demonstrate the requirement though CCTV due to the backing up of the drain. However, she decided to complete the remaining works anyhow and we were able to show the condition of the drain when the repair was complete so it was all worthwhile. We installed a new inspection chamber at the boundary to provide for future maintenance and inspection.
The most frustrating aspect of this job was that the tarmacadam driveway was only laid about five years before hand. Here at Substruck, we always complete investigative works on all drainage before completing permanent reinstatement works.
