At Substruck, we don’t just drive bars into the ground — we try to push the boundaries of geotechnical understanding. As part of our ongoing commitment to research and innovation, we recently conducted a series of investigations on a site underlain by glacial till in County Cork, in collaboration with Munster Technological University.
This programme of work focused on improving the accuracy and interpretation of in-situ testing, particularly on the following aspects:
- The influence of skin friction on DPH blow counts or N10H values and the determination of a k value for Irish till
- The influence of cone type on torque values
- Investigation into a new Cone Type 3 designed and constructed by the research team (worked a treat)
- The influence of rod rotation on torque values
These studies not only refined our own methods but also provide valuable data for the wider geotechnical community, reinforcing our role as a leader in ground investigation for subsidence and new developments.
